Report: 2010 Timbertown great success!

The small town of Jandowae was a hive of activity last long weekend, in a celebration of past and present, with its biennial Timbertown Festival. The rich timber heritage of the region was honoured, as the diverse industries and community groups of today came together to showcase their town in a festival that has been hailed the biggest and best yet.

The event kicked off with the Jandowae Kindergarten Gala Art Show opening on Friday night, which ran for the duration of the weekend. Spectacular works were on exhibited from a range of artists, with admirers able to snap up their choice through both exhibition sales and an auction, resulting in a successful fundraiser for the Kindergarten.

The weekend provided a unique fundraising opportunity for other non-profit groups throughout the town, as projects carried out by each community group both enhanced the weekend’s program as well as raising valuable funds for their ventures.

Record crowds flocked to the event with an old heritage and a new look, revamped by new branding and promotion strategies, and invigorated by a fresh committee. The highlights of the program included a fun run, craft show, street markets, live entertainment, rugby league, 20/20 cricket, yabby races, karaoke, golf and the Timbertown Rodeo Extravaganza.

The success of the festival can be attributed to the refreshing country manner of a community working together towards a common goal.
